A canine friend
already possessing
the grace to sit, to stay,
with whatever there
may be on any given day.
A dog will not make
a problem go away,
they just stay.
When I look to the sky
asking no one in particular,
how or why.
A dog wisely sits beside
No need to fix or name,
stays, witnesses.
There is no blame.
Those calm brown eyes,
an anchor, a haven
in times of strain,
A dog quietly observes,
joy and pain.
Lost in canine eyes,
thoughtful, deep, wise.
When a dog is by my side
words are not
always needed,
and sometimes been seen,
is a form of being treated.
A big brown dog.
Valued, loved,
brushed, fed,
and then tucked
into bed.
