Bury me
not too far
from the sea.
A riverbed away
from the breeze,
with polished stones,
smoothed by water’s ease,
under the dappled trees.
Somewhere the earth
can hold me forever,
while I dream forevermore.
Whatever is next,
I don’t know.
I shall rest by the river flow.
Bury me in the sea.
Scatter my ashes
where I am free,
as far as I can see,
as deep as I can reach.
This is where
I would like to keep
the ocean lulling me in sleep,
The tides continue breathing deep
When I no longer need to breathe.
When I no longer need to be.
Bury me on the river,
my ashes cold
on the funeral pyre.
Place them upon a river bier.
Set me free.
Push me off gently
through the reeds,
to journey down the river,
boundary of worlds,
into the cool darkness.
The dark herald angel sings
from the shore, a last pure song,
of light and sound, as the
river carries me down.
Bury me in the cool deep ground.
Ashes and stardust all around,
Here silence surrounds,
enchantment is found.
Take me to church.
Carry me for the last time.
Tell stories that make us smile.
You may weep here,
lower me deeper.
My tombstone, a place
to linger, to sit for space.
I am not cold.
I am not sorry
I don’t grow old.
I do not worry
No burden left to keep.
Held by the earth,
cradled in eternal sleep.
